What should I do immediately after a loss occurs?
Intimate the loss to your insurance company without delay. Early notification helps initiate the claim process and ensures timely support.
Capture clear photographs and videos of the loss site/ items as soon as possible. These visuals are valuable references for the visiting surveyor.
Avoid altering or disturbing the affected site or items before the surveyor's inspection. Preserving the original condition helps ensure accurate assessment.
Notify local authorities promptly, wherever required, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
When and How should I intimate an insurance claim?
It is strongly recommended to notify the insurance company immediately upon the occurrence of any loss or damage.
Please refer to your policy document for specific instructions on how to initiate a claim with your insurer.
You may also seek assistance from your intermediary—such as your insurance agent or broker—for claim registration and guidance.
Can I appoint an insurance surveyor for the losses I’ve suffered?
As per current regulations, the appointment of a surveyor is primarily the responsibility of the insurance company.
The insurer selects and assigns a licensed surveyor deemed suitable for the nature and extent of the reported loss.
What are the steps in an Insurance Claim Process:
Generally Claim is processed as per below steps
1)Loss Intimation to Insurer
2. Appointment of Surveyor by Insurer (if applicable).
3. Surveyor Visit
4. Surveyor Query Resolution (if any)
5. Submission of Supporting Documents
6. Survey Report Submission
7. Insurer’s Review of FSR
8. Query Resolution (if any)
9. Payment or Repudiation By Insurers (as the case may be)
If the claim is found admissible, payment is processed as per assessed quantum.
If not admissible, the insurer issues a formal repudiation letter citing reasons.
Should I restore the damaged item after loss verification?
Restoration should only be undertaken under the guidance of the appointed surveyor and/or the insurance company.
The insured is advised to proceed, as per the instructions provided by the surveyor or insurer.
Premature restoration may affect claim admissibility or lead to complications in loss evaluation.
